June 19th, 2010Internet and Hackers

Internet The Internet was started in 1969. It started from local area network. Let me explain what is local area network. Computers connected with each other in a house or company makes local area network. On the other hand wide area network is the combination of countless LANs, wide area networks and individual machine around the world. All computers in the world when connected together make a network, which is known as Internet. These computers are connected through different ways via ISPs. Let me explain what is an ISP. Those companies who provide Internet service to computer users are called Internet service providers. These ISPs offer two types of connections. One is called slow speed or dialup and the other is known as high speed. Dial-up gives a maximum speed of 56 kbps. High speed connections starts from 56kbps and go behind 13mbps (mega bit per second).  ISPs provide different monthly ...

The growth of the internet has provided website owners with unique business opportunities.  This incredible growth has enabled entrepreneurs of all ages to sell their products and services to a worldwide audience. However, many forget to give their website the same consideration in regards to security. Most people understand the negative effect that a damaged operating system would have on a business owner, and therefore all efforts are made to secure the operating system and the local network. Unfortunately, many overlook their website. Many websites are well aware of the need for an antivirus software to protect their home network and computer, and most of them have such a software installed that actively protects them from malicious software. Again, many forget to give their website the same consideration in regards to security. Unfortunately, many overlook the possibility of the website being destroyed by a virus, even though it is a relatively common ...

Overview A Virtual Private Network (VPN) integrates remote employees, company offices, and business partners using the Internet and secures encrypted tunnels between locations. An Access VPN is used to connect remote users to the enterprise network. The remote workstation or laptop will use an access circuit such as Cable, DSL or Wireless to connect to a local Internet Service Provider (ISP). With a client-initiated model, software on the remote workstation builds an encrypted tunnel from the laptop to the ISP using IPSec, Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP), or Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP). The user must authenticate as a permitted VPN user with the ISP. Once that is finished, the ISP builds an encrypted tunnel to the company VPN router or concentrator. TACACS, RADIUS or Windows servers will authenticate the remote user as an employee that is allowed access to the company network. With that finished, the remote user must ...

June 16th, 2010Security in E-Business

A central issue in the commercial use of the Internet is security. Surveys state that the economic success of electronic business applications is inhibited because the Internet lacks appropriate security measures. One way to increase the trust of consumers in electronic business applications is to establish a standardized quantification of security. It is important to find a security quantifier, not only to compare systems with one another but also to analyze and design electronic business applications. An Electronic Business Application (EBA) is a system consisting of a server system (at the merchant's location), a client system (at the customer's location), and the transmission way in between, which is assumed to be insecure and un-trusted. We need to secure our environment so that we can perform things, as we want to get them done. E-terrorism, E-damage, E-security are being the buzzword nowadays in IT world. Security concerns in E-business have been receiving highest attention ...

INTRODUCTION The evolution in the networks & internet has increased different types of applications. One such application is VOIP which has become an alternative to traditional telephone network (public switched telephone network, or PSTN) offering versatile, flexible & economical speech communication. The PSTN of course, is not invulnerable to security breaches. Some of the earliest hackers were "phone phreakers", who specialized in making unauthorized long distance calls. Today, the threat caused by hackers to IP networks goes far beyond the cost of unauthorized long-distance calls. An attack could take down the network (and thus the company's phone service) for hours or days, and the content of calls intercepted, divulging trade secrets, VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) The first experiment on telephony networks were conducted by the researchers at MIT in 1970s & the internet protocol specification RFC741 for “Network Voice Protocol “ was published in the year 1977.VOIP uses packet switching which ...

In this modern way of meeting the right person through internet dating, there are actually some advantages and disadvantages which one need to take note of. 1. Internet dating Security By personally signing up on an internet dating service, the person can meet many people without the risk of revealing one’s personal information.
