Apple released the initial beta version of iOS 17.2 to both developers and public beta testers nearly a fortnight ago, bringing a host of new features and modifications to iPhones. Here, we outline 10 of the noteworthy additions and changes in this software update.

The public release of iOS 17.2 is anticipated in December.

  1. Journal App: Apple’s novel Journal app enables iPhone users to reflect on their day and memories, incorporating text, photos, music, audio recordings, and more. The app offers personalized suggestions based on recent on-device activity.
  2. Translate Option for Action Button: The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max boast a customizable Action button, replacing the traditional mute switch. iOS 17.2 introduces the ability to assign the Action button to the Translate app for swift access to language translation in the Dynamic Island.
  3. New Widgets: iOS 17.2 brings fresh Home Screen and Lock Screen widget options for the Weather and Clock apps. Weather options now include Daily Forecast and Sunrise and Sunset, while the Clock app offers a digital clock widget.
  4. Apple Music: Collaborative Playlists: A Collaborative Playlists feature in Apple Music enables multiple users to contribute, rearrange, and remove songs in a shared playlist.
  5. Apple Music: Favorite Songs Playlist: In the Music app from iOS 17.1 onwards, users can mark songs as favorites by tapping the star icon, leading to enhanced recommendations.
  6. Apple Music: Listening History Focus Filter: To prevent others from influencing Apple Music recommendations when using your iPhone, iOS 17.2 introduces a new Focus filter for Apple Music listening history.
  7. iMessage: Contact Key Verification: iMessage Contact Key Verification enhances security for users facing digital threats, allowing them to confirm they are communicating only with intended individuals. This feature alerts users in case of potential breaches and enables a comparison of a Contact Verification Code for added security.

  9. Memoji: New Customization Options: Apple introduces a “Body” section for Memoji in iOS 17.2, enabling users to customize waist, bust, shoulders, and arms of their Memoji characters.
  10. Contact Posters: Rainbow Text: Starting with iOS 17.2, users can opt for rainbow-colored text when setting up a Contact Poster in the Contacts app.
